The observation
What many feel — without always being able to name it
All over the world, the same signs return. Inequalities are widening. Ecological balances are tipping at an unprecedented speed. Democracies struggle to respond to the issues that truly shape the future. And whatever the political side of successive majorities, the framework does not move.
It is not people's ill will that is the problem. It is not the incompetence of an era. It is something deeper — something in the framework itself, in the very way we have learned to decide, to produce, to organize collective life.
Something, in the way we have organized collective life, no longer matches what we understand of the world.
A shift
The problem is not where we think it is.
For a long time, we believed it would be enough to change the people in power, or the political programs, for things to really move. Experience shows that this is no longer the case. The actors change. The framework remains. And the same results return.
Another logic of organization is becoming possible. A different way of deciding together, founded on awareness of the bonds that unite us, shared responsibility, and respect for what makes life possible.
The problems we are going through will not be solved with the tools that produced them.

Sageocracy is a way of organizing collective life that no longer rests on power, but on lucidity. A society founded on awareness of the bonds that unite us to one another and to the living, on shared responsibility, and on respect for what makes life possible.
It is neither a utopia to be reached, nor a turnkey recipe, nor a manifesto. It is a direction — articulated, verifiable, applicable — for gradually reorienting the way we decide, work, own, pass on and live together.
Sageocracy is not a utopia to be reached. It is a possibility to be recognized.
No one decrees it. It is observed.

Awareness of bonds
Nothing exists in isolation, so nothing can be decided in isolation. A sageocratic decision looks broadly enough not to create elsewhere the very problems it claims to solve here. It is not a demand to know everything, but a demand for lucidity.

Expanded responsibility
If everything is connected, then no action stays confined to its point of origin. To decide is to accept that our choices commit more than we believe. Once we see, we can no longer say we did not know.

Continuous adjustment
No structure is ever final. Everything that is built stays in living relation with what it organizes. Error is not a failure to hide: it is information to integrate. Like a body constantly adjusting its temperature.

These three essential principles call forth others, which unfold over time in practice: syntony as a mode of decision, stewardship as a relationship to property, the Reliances as economic recognition, the House of Becoming as a place of learning. The book develops them one by one.
How it can really change
A democratic shift, step by step
Sageocracy does not propose to wait for the world to change. It proposes a precise, verifiable mechanism, accessible to everyone from anywhere — so that this change becomes possible. No revolution. No seizure of power. A shift of legitimacy.

Registration
Each person who recognizes this direction as right registers freely on sageocracy.org. It is free, with no activist commitment. It simply says: "I recognize. I take part."

The count
Each registration is recorded, dated and associated with a country of residence. The figures are verifiable by all, transparent, public.

The threshold
All registrations are counted, with no age condition. When, in a country, the adult share of those registered reaches a substantial majority, this threshold constitutes a democratic expression of a new kind — no longer the preference between existing options, but the shared recognition that another path is possible.

The existing democratic mechanisms
Referendum, legislative initiative, constitutional process — the tools already provided by each democracy can then be mobilized to give form to this new legitimacy. This protocol bypasses nothing. It imposes nothing. It activates what already exists.
To become a Sageocrat is to stop functioning according to what is no longer right.

The book develops the diagnosis of the contemporary world, the theoretical foundations of Sageocracy, its institutional architecture and the shift mechanism it proposes. It starts from the world as it is, to name what this world now makes necessary.
Author: Yannick Costechareyre
The French manuscript was completed in May 2026. Several approaches are currently under way with authors whose work has nourished the sageocratic endeavour, so that each edition of the book — the French edition, the English-language edition, and later other languages — may benefit from an introductory voice suited to its audience. The international publication will develop progressively, at the pace of publishing agreements and translations.
